Adult Volunteers (18+)

1st Market Bosworth Scouts is run entirely by volunteers who give up their own free time to help and nurture our Young People. There are three main types of volunteers: Uniformed Leaders, Parent (Occasional) Helpers and the Executive Committee. Everyone involved with the Scout Group helps our volunteers get the most out of their experiences by providing opportunities for adventure, training, fun and friendship.

If you are interested are being involved, we offer a 4 week challenge program to try out roles where you will get to:

Week 1 – See what we get up to

Week 2 – Start to help out

Week 3 – Get a little more involved

Week 4 – You’ll know if Scouting if for you

Around 50% of the people who have completed the 4 week challenge at Market Bosworth Scout Group have stayed on. It really is a great way of finding out if it is for you.

“We have loads of different roles, with all the roles we will support you and if you ever feel you are not enjoying it anymore we will help you find another role that you like. Contact me for a no-obligation chat!”

Simon Jeffers Group Scout Leader.

As well as helping young people you will help other adults. It makes a big difference to the quality of our programmes and the scout / life balance of our volunteers, there is something to suit everyone!

Section Leaders and Assistants:

We normally run a minimum of 10 meetings a term, if you have two leaders and split the work equally they each need to organise 5 meetings each. By having 3 leaders it reduces to 3 meetings each.

Cleaning / Maintenance:

Someone willing to pop in to vacuum between meetings lets a leader go home to see their family for tea time / bed time.

Exec:

Someone sitting on the Exec allows our leaders to concentrate on the programme for the young people and not worry about whether the electrics have been tested, the insurance is paid etc!

In some roles you get free award-winning Scout Association training. The approach focuses on what you want to get out of volunteering with Scouts, while respecting how much time you can offer. Over 90% of Scout volunteers say that their skills and experiences have been useful in their work or personal life.

In Scouting, our adults have a responsibility to make sure that the Programme is fun and exciting. We must also make sure that it is safe. The Scout Association’s policies, rules, code of behaviour, advice on Child Protection and safety policy are there to ensure our young people stay safe while they enjoy themselves and learn.

Volunteering for Scouting is one of the most fun, rewarding and positive things you can ever do. You can give as much or a little time you like and we will match opportunities that fit your skills and time available. If you would like to have fun and make friends, earn professional qualifications and make a real difference to the lives of young people please volunteer with us.

If you’d like to join us, please feel free to get in touch – we’d love to hear from you!

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
