Moving Up

We aim to move the young people at the end of term closest to their birthday, however sometimes we need to free up places which may delay or advance the moving up time within the flexibility periods outlined below. Our date does not take into account: Friends Circles, Year groups at school, maturity, other clubs and commitments. However…

You will be pleased to hear that you can influence us by letting us know if we need to speed up or delay a young person moving. We usually have the ability to be flexible and can speed up or delay someone moving up by six months, or longer on the very rare occasion longer for medical reasons. This is the flexibility we have:

  • Beaver Scouts: Joining age 5 ¾ – Leaving age 8 (flexibility 7 ½ – 8 ½)
  • Cub Scouts: Joining age 8 – Leaving age 10 ½ (flexibility 10 – 11)
  • Scouts: Joining age 10 ½ Leaving age 14 (flexibility 13 ½ – 14 ½)

If you need to take advantage of this flexibility please contact your Leader.

Three Sessions

When your young person moves up we would ideally like your young person to attend three sessions of the new section whilst continuing with your current section. For example: a Beaver Scout joining Cub Scouts would attend both Cub Scouts and Beaver Scouts for the duration of the three sessions.

This allows the young person to adjust and also makes it less scary for the next ones to move up as they will talk about this experience.
