Safeguarding
1st Market Bosworth Scout Group follow the National Scout Association procedures for Safeguarding, you can find out more here: https://www.scouts.org.uk/about-us/policy/safeguarding-policy-and-procedures/
If you help out as a parent helper more than 3 times a term or are a leader or involved in overnight activities whether that is a hike, sleepover or camping or attend most scout camp sites you will be required to have a Scout DBS.
Which means by default that all our uniformed adult leaders are DBS checked.
We are targeted that within four months of being appointed our adult leaders will have carried out their safeguarding training. In the meantime we will have issued the ‘Yellow Card‘ that sets out the safeguarding code of practice and we encourage leaders to carry this at all times, before and after their training. There training is re-refreshed very 3 years to keep them up to date.
Our young leaders also have a safeguarding code of practice which is the ‘Orange Card’:
A regular conflict between Leaders wanting to help out:
Giving lifts to young people – you as parents / carers can help by arranging with parents / carers a rota if you have difficulties getting your young person to and from section meetings. Please ensure your young person is not alone with a adult and we would not recommend lifts from the same person on a regular basis.
Drop off and Pick up– you as parents / carers can help by dropping off and picking up at the correct times and being prepared to stay with a leader/s until they have the correct adult ratios.
Getting a DBS is free and very easy and lasts 5 years. You simply complete the ‘adult information form’ and ID checking form and then come to a section meeting with your original ID and a leader will check this and then pass on for processing.
