Scouts Group Pillows and Pilots Adventure

Scouts Group Pillows and Pilots Adventure.
I am sure our website readers wonder how they could earn their scouts air activities badge! Well, 47 of our scout group signed up to go to Royal Air Force Museum Midlands (RAF Cosford) in March this year to find out. Roberts coach picked them up from Market square and their adventure began.
On arrival they started with a briefing under a Vulcan strategic bomber, the Vulcan planes were operated by the Royal Air Force (RAF) from 1956 until 1984. Then onto aircraft access of a Chinook (a tandem rotor helicopter) followed by an Andover (a twin-engined turboprop military transport aircraft). They then decorated a kit bag, did a paper plane challenge, onto the rockets, a cargo drop and sphero maze.
Next stop was a visit onboard a VC10, these aircraft were used from 1965 as strategic air transports for the Royal Air Force. What were the Scouts to do in this aircraft, have a silent disco on board of course!
The Scouts had an opportunity to look around the National Cold War Exhibition before a movie under the Vulcan Buzz Lightyear.
They slept in the aircraft hangar underneath the aircraft. Some slept longer than others and the next day we welcomed them all back along with the leaders who were ready for another sleep.
A massive thank you to the Leaders, young leaders and adults who supported the 7 to 13 year olds in earning their scouts air activities badge. Turns out you need to do quite a lot!
