Scout Hut Renovation Project- What an achievement!
When we first had the surveyor’s report back in July 2020 the Executive Committee thought it seemed a huge amount of work to undertake and raise the funds for. But then our Scouting Promise does include the line ‘I promise that I will do my best…” and that’s what we set out to do.
We began seeking out grants we could apply for, quotes from contractors and gaining the support we needed to make this happen. The hut has now been insulated and rendered, the fascia, soffits and guttering replaced, new windows and doors installed and a safe pathway built and new fencing erected. Our thanks go to Miro Windows, PD Rendering, Property Services and Harding Construction for the completion of the work.
This has only been made possible with funding from The Market Bosworth Parish Council, The Dixie Educational Foundation, the Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council Parish & Community Fund, The Leslie Sells Charitable Trust, the ASDA Foundation and our own funds. In order to apply for grants we have had the support from Dr. Luke Evans (MP), Maureen Cook (Borough Councillor) and the Market Bosworth Parish Council. In order to manage the cashflow between paying contractors and receiving grants we had the support of JC Brooks Trust Fund. We are extremely grateful and thankful to all whom have supported us and made this project possible.
We have achieved a HUGE transformation of our Scout Hut and the Scout Hut Renovation Project has now come to a close.
As the saying goes – as one door closes another opens… in this instance the door opens and leads us inside the Scout Hut to the next phase of our vision. ‘The Scout Hut Refurbishment and Ramp Project’. We have begun fundraising and already had support once more from The Dixie Educational Foundation and The Market Bosworth Parish Council. The funding required to complete this work is extensive and more grants have been applied for. Our Quiz and Chips Fundraising Night has been organised for March and each section of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts has been set the challenge to come up with fundraising events too to help fund this project.
Haywood Architects have drawn up some fantastic plans from which we have got quotes from contractors and we thank Lee for his help and guidance. We are hopeful that we shall be able to raise the required funds to start working on the interior later this year. The vision includes a ramp for access and also to modify the hut layout to make it more accessible to those with disabilities, including a separate disabled toilet and shower room. We also hope to be able update the kitchen too, therefore making the whole hut much more viable for the community to use in the future.
If you would like to contribute towards the project either with your time or to help fund future projects, or if you wish to volunteer with 1st Market Bosworth Scout Group then please contact Simon our Group Scout Leader: gsl_mbscouts@outlook.com. We are always grateful for any support.
