Scout Hut Ramp and Internal Refurbishment Project

Date: 27th Oct 2022 Author: Lindsay Hague-Morgan

Inspired by the success of raising the funds to complete all the external work required on the hut, this time the focus has moved towards ensuring the internal hut layout and facilities enable the space to become more usable for those people whom may be disabled. Our vision is to have a ramp for accessibility to the hut, to move an internal wall to create a wider space should wheelchair access be required and have a more accessible disabled toilet. We will also take this opportunity to have; an extra toilet, move a store room, create more useable storage, update the heating, install hot water in the toilets and kitchen, upgrade inbuilt cooking facilities, fit electric fire alarms and more.

A massive amount of work has been done fundraising and applying for grants as well by our adult volunteers to get us to the stage and Haywards Architects have gone above and beyond to help us with drawings for grant application / building regulations and vetting contractors at no cost to the Scout Group.

Our young people have also been involved in helping with the design, fundraising and applying for grants. One of their most recent successes the young people in the Scout Section (age 10 ½ to 14)  had written to Dixie Foundation Trust requesting a Projector, Screen, Blinds and Fridge for the kitchen. In July 2022 at our AGM the Dixie Foundation Trust awarded the Grant for all of the items requested.

For the duration of the refurbishment our Leaders will once again be bringing the OUT into Scouting at Market Bosworth Rugby Club who have kindly agreed to host our Scouting adventures.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
