Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting

Date: 10th May 2022 Author: Lindsay Hague-Morgan

The Platinum Jubilee was celebrated on Sunday 6th February by the planting of three trees in St Andrew’s Churchyard in Carlton.

The first two trees – a rowan and a Chinese hornbeam – were planted by Jayne Dolman and Fiona Mansfield.  The third tree – a crab apple – was planted by Sienna Morgan (1st Market Bosworth Beaver Group), Harry Morgan (1st Market Bosworth Scout Group), and Jonny Morgan (St Peter’s Primary School, Market Bosworth), with help from Nicola Morgan (Chair, 1st Market Bosworth Scout Group).   The three new trees will have a compact habit, and have been chosen to provide colour and interest through the year.

This event complemented one held in 1977 to mark the Silver Jubilee.  At that time Jayne Dolman and na Mansfield (nee Staples) were members of the 1st Carlton Brownie Pack and had helped to plant two trees in the churchyard – a weeping silver birch and a copper beech – which have thrived and are now providing habitat, shade and interest in this important green space in the centre of the village.

The event was attended by more than 30 local residents, including a former Brown Owl from the 1st Carlton Brownie Pack, and everyone then enjoyed tea and cakes in the recently completed Community Hub.
