Our Market Bosworth Unsung Hero

Date: 26th Apr 2022 Author: Lindsay Hague-Morgan

Our very own Charlotte was invited to attend and receive a Unsung Hero award on Friday 22nd April for her charitable work.

Held at Leicestershire Police Headquarters in Enderby the awards are a chance to recognise those people who operate in the background of Scouting supporting us all in the work we do.  Without them our lives would be so much harder. Each of the 10 Districts making up the County has been asked for nomination of up to 5 people so you have to be pretty special to get put forward.

We got to hear from Charlotte some of the format of the night, which consisted of a welcome drink to network, then through to the tables and a formal welcome by Adrian Wray and Carol Black. Two rounds of awards took place; National awards were handed out in front of everyone and local awards were handed out at the tables which were district area based. This was followed by a lovely buffet. The evening continued with two more rounds of National and local awards and ended with a closing speech by Professor Robert Allison.

This is the citation on the certificate in the photo:

Charlotte joined our group in January 2018 after we sent an appeal out requesting help with fundraising and grants to the local community. Through Charlottes’ hard work she has made it possible that we have:

–  A Scout Hut that is weatherproof with limited maintenance costs for a minimum of the next 10 years and will likely last 30 years+. Securing a place for Scouting in Market Bosworth.

– Core camping equipment available to allow our young people to enjoying the outdoor Scouting experience.

– Inspired and given confidence to our leaders that we can get grant help from organisations to help young people enjoy a Scouting experience.

– Inspired our young people to fundraise towards initiatives that mean something to them.

Charlotte communicates with the Exec, regularly finding out the needs for the group. Once established she is relentless in obtaining all necessary information for Grant applications. Her communication with the Grant bodies is extremely impressive, ensuring that we have a relationship with the person involved before applying. Charlotte stays connected throughout the process and provided updates to show when we have completed a project. Congratulations Charlotte we are extremely pleased to see your Grant and Fundraising work rewarded.

Well done Charlotte, very well deserved.
